Montessori School Serving Delray Beach Families
Delray Beach parents looking for a Montessori education face a familiar problem: the search results are full of schools that use the word without the credentials behind it. Royal Palm Montessori Academy is a short drive west, and we have been doing this in the same building, under the same family, since February 2000.
Twenty-six years is an unusual number in early childhood education. Preschools in South Florida open and close constantly. Ours has taught siblings, and in a growing number of cases, the children of former students.
Getting here from Delray
Whether you are coming from Lake Ida, Rainberry Bay, Mizner Country Club, Hammock Reserve, Foxe Chase, or the Kings Point area, the route is straightforward. Take Atlantic Avenue or Linton Boulevard west to Lyons Road or Military Trail, then head south. Families in west Delray near the Morikami Museum and Delray Marketplace are often surprised at how quick the drive is — for many, it is shorter than the trip east into downtown Delray.
Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, which gives working parents in Delray real flexibility on both ends of the commute.
Accredited, licensed, and certified
Three things separate us from most preschools advertising Montessori in the Delray Beach area:

Accreditation. We hold Apple Accreditation through FACCM.

Licensing. We are licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families, license #50-51-00898.

Teacher certification. Our teachers are Montessori certified. Our curriculum developer has taught here since 2000. Our owner/director holds a BA from Harvard University, a master's from Nova Southeastern University, and Montessori certification, and has led the school since 1999.

What your child actually does here
A Montessori morning does not look like a conventional preschool morning. There is no whole-group worksheet time. Instead, children work through five prepared areas of the classroom:
Practical Life
comes first and matters most — pouring water between pitchers, buttoning frames, sweeping, preparing snack. These look like chores. What they build is concentration, sequencing, and fine-motor control, which is exactly what a four-year-old needs before a pencil goes in their hand.
Sensorial
materials isolate a single quality — weight, texture, color gradation, pitch — so children learn to notice detail precisely.
Language
moves from letter sounds and sandpaper letters through vocabulary, word-picture matching, and into early reading and writing.
Mathematics
Mathematics is taught with physical materials before symbols, so children handle a quantity of one thousand before they write the numeral.
Science and Social Studies
run through botany, geography, and our garden, where students grow produce and conduct experiments.
Add Spanish three times weekly, art twice weekly, computer lab, PE, and a moral character program, plus optional soccer, Kenpo Karate, and dance.
Small ratios in large rooms
Our classrooms are unusually large and our student-to-teacher ratios are small. This is not a marketing line — it is a structural requirement of the method. A child needs floor space to lay out a work mat and enough teacher availability to receive an individual lesson when they are ready for it. Crowded rooms cannot deliver Montessori regardless of what is on the shelves.
VPK, Step Up, and kindergarten readiness
We participate in Florida's VPK program and have spots available. Families using Step Up For Students scholarships should call us to discuss how the scholarship applies.
Delray Beach families frequently tell us the same thing after their child's first year of kindergarten: the academic gap was nice, but the difference in work habits was the real payoff. Montessori children are used to choosing a task, completing it, returning it to the shelf, and beginning the next one without prompting. That habit transfers to every classroom they ever enter.

Our Cobblestone Way campus is a short drive southwest of Delray. Most west Delray families reach us in 15–20 minutes via Atlantic Avenue or Linton Boulevard to Lyons Road or Military Trail.
Yes. Florida's VPK program is state-administered, so Palm Beach County families — including those in Delray Beach — can use their Certificate of Eligibility at our school. Call us and we will help you through the paperwork.
