Montessori School in West Boca Raton
Royal Palm Montessori Academy has been part of West Boca Raton since February 2000. Twenty-six years, one location, one family — the same building on Cobblestone Way, off the Lyons Road corridor, where thousands of West Boca children have taken their first steps toward reading, writing, and arithmetic.
If you live in Loggers' Run, Boca Falls, Mission Bay, Boca Chase, Sandalfoot Cove, Boca Winds, The Shores, or Whisper Walk, we are your neighborhood school. Most of our families arrive in under ten minutes, which matters more than parents expect. A short drive means a calm morning drop-off, and a calm drop-off means a child who walks into the classroom ready to work.
An accredited school, not a daycare with a Montessori label
Royal Palm Montessori Academy holds Apple Accreditation through FACCM and is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families under license #50-51-00898. Our teachers are Montessori certified — not "Montessori-inspired," not trained in a weekend workshop. Several have taught in these classrooms since the school opened in 2000, and our curriculum developer has been with us since that first year.
That distinction is worth understanding when you tour West Boca preschools. A great deal of what markets itself as Montessori in South Florida is conventional preschool with wooden toys. Ask any school you visit two questions: who accredits you, and where were your teachers certified. We are happy to answer both.
What a day looks like
Our classrooms are organized into the five core Montessori areas, and children move through all of them:
Practical Life
pouring, buttoning, sweeping, food preparation. This is the foundation. It builds the concentration and hand control that everything else depends on.
Sensorial
materials that isolate one quality at a time: color, weight, texture, sound, size. Children learn to notice fine distinctions.
Language
letter shapes and sounds, fine-motor preparation for handwriting, vocabulary, matching words to pictures, and reading.
Mathematics
concrete materials first. A child holds the quantity before naming the numeral, which is why Montessori students often carry an unusually solid number sense into elementary school.
Science and Social Studies
botany, geography, and the natural world, reinforced by our on-site garden where children plant, grow produce, and run simple experiments.
Alongside the core curriculum, students have Spanish three times a week, art twice a week, weekly computer lab, physical education, and a moral character program covering kindness, responsibility, and citizenship. Soccer through Soccer Shots, Kenpo Karate, and dance through Dynamite Dance Studio are available as extracurriculars.
Small ratios, large classrooms
Our classrooms are physically large and our student-to-teacher ratios are small. Both matter. Montessori depends on a child being able to choose work from the shelf, carry it to a mat, and stay with it without being crowded or interrupted. Cramped rooms and high headcounts make that impossible. When you tour, look at the floor space and count the adults.
VPK and kindergarten readiness in West Boca
We participate in Florida's Voluntary Prekindergarten program, and VPK spots are available. Families using Step Up For Students scholarships are welcome — call us and we will walk you through how it applies here.
West Boca families typically feed into Waters Edge, Sandpiper Shores, or Hammock Pointe Elementary, and our graduates consistently arrive prepared. Not simply able to recite letters, but able to sit with a task, finish it, put it away, and start the next one. Kindergarten teachers notice that before they notice anything academic.
